HSCIC (now known as NHS DIGITAL) can provide access to several different types of information:
- identifiable - containing details that identify individuals e.g.
- Name address, DOB etc, medical history, illnesses, GP/ Healthcare provider details).
- pseudonymised - about individuals but with identifying details (such as name or NHS number) replaced with a unique code e.g.
- Community Health Index (CHI) number, patient identity number/reference.
- anonymised - about individuals but with identifying details removed e.g.
- Statistics about patient outcomes.
- Research purposes.
- aggregated - anonymised information grouped together so that it doesn't identify individuals e.g.
- Statistics about patient outcomes.
- Research purposes.
We collect information from various sources:
- Students,
- Practice owners,
- Dental professionals,
- Course providers,
- Course presenters,
- Dental companies/company representatives,
- Venues,
- Caterers,
- General Dental Council,
- Scottish Qualification Authority,
- Health Boards.
The care information we collect is used for purposes such as:
- Statistical analysis,
- Development of courses, educational programmes,
- Management of students/ course participants/ staff,
- Health promotion /improvement,
- Support improvement in the delivery of patient care,
- Quality improvement/ audits.
